How Do Monitored Home Alarm Systems Work?

There has been a lot of information recently on home monitoring security alarm systems, and most of us have seen the numerous commercials on TV. While you do see a glimpse of how these systems could work on the ads, you really don’t get a lot of information about them. Basically, when you have this type of security alarm system installed in your home, you are hooked into a security monitoring center, and if your security alarm is triggered, it automatically alerts the people working in the monitoring station. Depending on the type of security system you have, they may try to call you first, and then notify the proper authorities, or they may just immediately call local emergency services, it sometimes varies according to company policy and the nature of the alarm. If your home alarm shows a fire or gas leak, emergency services are usually immediately dispatched to your home.

 

Many home monitoring systems hire personnel who are trained to evaluate and handle emergency situations, such as 911 operators do. They determine the nature of the emergency, and what emergency personnel to notify. Some security systems have microphones and speakers installed throughout your home, so that if your alarm is activated, you can communicate directly with someone at the monitoring company. In the case of a burglar alarm being triggered, these specialists are first trained to find out if the alarm was triggered by someone living in the home, or a pet, before dispatching police, because so many of those alarms are caused accidentally to go off. If a fire is sensed in the home, an alarm will go off to warn the occupants of the home, the monitoring service will come over the speakers to warn you as well, and then will contact your local fire department, so that help is on the way. In the case of a fire, fast response can mean the difference between everyone getting out, and the alternative.

When you purchase or move into a new home, one of the first things you should do is have a security system installed. You need to decide what type of system you need, and then decide if you want it to be monitored or not. Some security companies offer package deals, where you get the system, installation, and a couple of free months of monitoring at a great discounted rate. If you do decide to use a local security company, make certain you take the time to check into that company’s background and reputation, since you will be allowing their representatives to come inside your home, and to install and setup your security system. Anytime you have people coming inside your home to do any sort of work, this is something that you should make certain you do. Again, you have to decide if this is what you are looking for. Just don’t make the mistake of leaving your home and family unprotected, because you never really know when the unexpected may happen.
